Online/ Digital Marketing: The new trend

March 28, 2007 at 2:45 am (Uncategorized)

Last night, I had my usual advertising seminar lecture; however, this time the topic was interesting. It was about the digital/ online marketing trends in Australia and around the world. Most of the time, when we think of online marketing, we always think about banner ads or the annoying pop-ups. Actually, there are a lot of other interesting forms of online marketing, for example advergaming and online video ads.

Advergaming is a form of online marketing where a brand promotion is embedded in an online game program in the internet. The users/ consumers can interact with the game and at the same time will learn the features of the product/ service that are being promoted.
I personally think this form of online marketing are a very clever and innovative way to promote a product or service to the consumers. Check out this cool Nokia website, it is a fun and interactive website, try it and you will understand what I have talked about before.

Online video ads are also one way to promote a brand with an interactive video that the users can play with. Youtube is one communication tool for brands when they want to do online video ads as their campaign. There are a lot of successful stories with the online video ads and one of them is the Nokia’s greatpockets campaign. It has created word of mouth in the online world which lead to Nokia’s success in promoting the product.

The online/ digital marketing trend in Australia is still growing rapidly as now 10.6 million Australians have access to internet and 7.5 million of them have broadband (Konrad RMIT, 2007). Broadband has definitely changed people’s attitudes toward the internet as it provides a faster and now cheap internet connection. However, bare in mind, this trend seems to attract more younger audience aged 18 – 29 as they are more technology-savvy than the older generation.

Please give your opinion in this topic and if you have a great website to look at, give us the web address.
Thank you and cheers….

There has been a major plane crash tragedy happened in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. For a start, I’m an Indonesian and this tragedy has shocked me (again!!) as Indonesia has already suffered from a lot of major tragedies in the last 5 years. Let’s look at the list: tsunami, earthquake, flood, and now plane crash. When all of these going to end?

Internet

March 7, 2007 at 11:00 am (Uncategorized)

I just finished my reading for the first week and I thought it’s quite interesting (although I’ve already known some of the information from somewhere else). Basically, the articles talk about how the network media such as the Internet has changed the way we communicate with others. Ten years ago, home telephone would be the most favorite communication device to keep in touch with friends and family. However, nowadays, internet seems to be very popular way to communicate, especially for the younger generation.

MSN, Friendster and myspace have replaced the traditional letters or even the function of telephone. “It’s easier, faster and cheaper”, this would be the reason why more and more people use the internet as their communication tools. I’m just wondering, is the internet will change the way we live or communicate significantly in the next ten years? Please post your comments on it….
