ambient ADVERTISING

April 27, 2007 at 2:55 pm (Uncategorized)

As you all may already realized that I’m an advertising student, so I have a lot of advertising content in my blog. I love advertising and hopefully I will still passionate about it in the next ten years J

Anyway, I have this interesting assignment about ambient advertising. First of all, ambient advertising is a form of advertising besides television, print or radio. It is a different approach of promoting a product or service. It can be spray painting on the foot path or big giant balloon in the sky. Maybe you have seen one or two lately..

My topic is about fare evaders in trams and I need to warn them to buy a ticket whenever they travel with trams. I can’t use traditional media and trust me it’s harder than I think to find a unique idea that will attract people. Any idea guys?

There is a couple of funny and interesting idea for ambient advertising, see this LINK to view them. If you have photographs, ideas or websites of interesting ambient advertising, please share..^^

What has the world come into? : The danger of the internet

April 26, 2007 at 3:37 am (Uncategorized)

In the last two weeks, there are two major tragedies that have shocked people around the world. I can not stop thinking what the world has come into lately. The first one is the Viginia Tech Uni massacre that has brutally killed 32 students in America. The first thing that came into my mind was “Again??, Shooting in America again??”. What is wrong with America and all the random shooting?.

Anyway, the killer name was Korean-born Cho Seung Hui who moved to the States at the age of eight. According to the media, he has a mental illness that caused him to do the shooting. His former professor also described Cho as a loner student whose works sometimes found disturbing. Look (wiki website) for more detail of the event and the list of the victims. The interesting element of this event is how fast the news spread especially in the internet. Now, people around the world can watch Cho’s self-confessed video in Youtube or read the details on various websites. One thing that worries me is how all the Cho’s videos and news may inspire other ‘disturbed’ people to do the same thing?

The second tragedy is the suicide of two Victorian girls that happened this week. It is believed that the two girls have a mental problem as one of the girls stated in her MySpace account that she wants to be free. Apparently, the girls have used their MySpace account as a medium to express their feelings and frustrations. See this article for more details The dangerous thing is the internet allows these girls to meet other people with the same problem and support each other. As I said before, the internet can be dangerous place for people who has ‘problem’ as it allows people to express their opinions freely. I also remember, Jenny (our lecturer) said that there is a site for anorexic people where the members support each other to starve themselves.

Please give your opinion on this topic guys… Thanks..
